October 8, 2007 – Madison, WI – The Madison Scouts announce that the following individuals have been named as caption heads for the 2008 season:Clay Wachholz – BrassAnthony Erevia – Color GuardAndy Bliss – Front EnsembleRoger Carter – PercussionJohn Scruggs – Visual“The Madison Scouts continue to focus on the education and performance experiences delivered to our membership,” says corps director Dann Petersen. “Critical to our success is a teaching philosophy that balances the importance of competition and performance excellence. We are confident that these men will deliver both a fantastic experience for our corps members and a great product for the audience.”Clay Wachholz returns to the Scouts after several years as a member of the Phantom Regiment’s brass staff. “Clay represents over two decades of drum corps experience and is a superb music educator,” says Petersen. “His presence on this team reflects a great balance of tradition and progress, something that we are actively fostering as we select our instructional staff.”Anthony Erevia will again lead the guard, his second season as caption head. “Our goal is to march at least 36 in the guard this year,” says Petersen. “Anthony has the experience in the color guard community to make that happen. We will make our guard recruiting more accessible by holding several satellite auditions across the country.” Erevia, who hails from Boston, is also the lead designer and instructor for the St. Ann’s winter guard.Andy Bliss returns for his second year as a caption head for the front ensemble. Bliss, who is pursuing a doctorate in percussion performance at the University of Kentucky, has high expectations for the season. “The momentum we had going into finals week continues as we build the team and the show for 2008,” says Bliss. “It’s going to be a fantastic season for our marching members and fans alike.”Percussion caption head Roger Carter is also entering his second year with the Scouts. “Roger was such a dynamic addition to our team last year,” says Petersen. “The percussion line immediately gravitated to his teaching enthusiasm and his tremendous skill in writing exciting and challenging drum passages.” For several years, Carter has been the arranger and lead percussion instructor for the Freelancers winter drum line as well as the percussion caption head for the James Logan H.S. Band (CA).John Scruggs, a former member of the Scouts visual team, is returning as visual caption head. “We are all excited about John’s return to the corps, notably those who experienced firsthand the enthusiasm with which he taught the visual program,” says Petersen. “His work ethic and commitment to excellence are infectious.” Scruggs is currently the band director at Humboldt H.S. (TN).“The Madison Scouts has assembled an exceptional group of music and performance educators for the 2008 season,” says Jeff Spanos, executive director for the Scouts. “This instructional team includes a complementary mix of talents, experiences and teaching methods, a combination that will simultaneously enable us to produce an exciting field show while delivering on our mission of creating a top-rate educational experience for our members.”
