MadU: Design
For band directors and marching arts designers who wish to develop their knowledge of the show design coordination process and specific components within: arranging, drill-writing, choreography, etc. All courses are taught by members of the Madison Scouts design team.
Courses
Program Coordination: Explore the fundamentals of program design and coordination with the Madison Scouts’ design leader, Jason Robb. Course content will challenge you to think critically about how you program for your band or ensemble, and will allow you to get feedback on creative ideas for your upcoming seasons.
Choreography: This class gives you a front-row seat to the Madison Scouts’ choreographic process for both color guard and winds/percussion. Learn about the techniques and styles included in our team’s creative process, and get feedback on your own work throughout the course from Jennifer Leseth.
Drill Design & Staging: Learn the fundamentals of drill and staging with the Madison Scouts drill designer, Noah Bellamy. The course will familiarize you with the basics of drill writing software and writing tools, and will challenge you to think creatively about your on-field presentation. Participants will receive direct feedback on their creative work during the course.
Wind Arranging: Learn the fundamentals of wind arranging for the marching arts with our brass arranger & composer, Daniel Montoya Jr. The course will cover technical and creative elements necessary for success as an arranger, and will allow you to get direct feedback from design team members on your own creative work.
Percussion Arranging: Learn the fundamentals of percussion arranging for the marching arts with our percussion arrangers, Ryan Ellis and Matt Hahn. The course will cover technical and creative elements necessary for success as an arranger, and will allow you to get direct feedback from design team members on your own creative work.
Opportunities to purchase/lease music composition and drill design software will be offered by MadU in partnership with select companies.
