Scouts Launch MadU Fall Semester

In early August, 121 current Madison Scouts members and over 30 new students concluded the summer semester of the newly created MadU virtual education program. These students developed their performance, personal, and creative skills through a variety of class offerings while demonstrating a commitment to the corps motto ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ as they navigated the unexpected.

  • 4077 hours of cumulative virtual learning
  • The most active students participated in 80 sessions and activities throughout the summer
  • The most active MadU participant, who wasn’t previously a member of the corps, participated in 59 sessions and activities
  • Over 100 students participated at least once per week throughout the summer semester
  • Students who participated in the music composition class submitted arrangements for review by Daniel Montoya Jr., the Scouts brass arranger. Three arrangements were selected to be performed by the Scouts brass line.
  • 9 out of 10 participants ‘strongly recommend’ the MadU experience after completing the summer semester
  • 12 MadU participants auditioned and earned performing roles in the 2021 Madison Scouts

“The opportunity to be a part of the Madison Scouts and the MadU program has given me such an insight into many aspects of the marching arts. Our sessions and masterclasses have allowed me to analyze myself as a leader, as a conductor, and as a peer to my fellow Madison Scouts...”

Kameron Lannan (19) - Madison Scouts, conductor

“...I’ve learned so much from MadU. I’ve started to learn baritone. I was inspired in ‘Fitness and Nutrition’ to begin running and eating better. The leadership classes have led me to really look at myself and grow as a person. Everything has been extremely positive and I really feel like part of the corps.”

Ty Thompson (16) - MadU, baritone

The Madison Scouts and Forward Performing Arts are excited to announce that MadU will be returning for a fall semester, and is now available to performing arts educators and their students. Schools can purchase the MadU program for their students, which will grant them access to all live sessions and class recordings to be used as supplemental curriculum and lesson resources. Fall class offerings include:

  • Music Composition: Daniel Montoya Jr., composer/brass arranger
  • Drill Design: Noah Bellamy, visual designer
  • Sound Design & Implementation: Aaron Tucker, audio caption manager

  • Health & Fitness: Karl Koemmpel, visual educator and tri-athlete
  • Careers in and beyond the performing arts: Nick Monzi, educational director
  • Tonal Energy Masterclass: Albert Vela, Tonal Energy rep.

In addition to these classes, the Scouts education faculty will host bi-weekly masterclasses in the brass, color guard, percussion, and visual skill areas.

Interested educators should contact to set up a consultation session with Nick Monzi and David Lofy.
