The Madison Scouts conducted their April camp this past weekend at Madison Country Day School and returned to the historic East High School, the birthplace of many a Scouts' shows. With fewer than five weeks until the start of spring training, the corps has shifted into high gear in preparation for the summer season. April camp saw the guard for the first time since November auditions and the corps was presented with a significant chunk of the drill for the opening production. The battery and front ensemble did not attend this camp as most of the staff and members were in Dayton, Ohio for the WGI Percussion World Championships. Congratulations are in order to all our participants, but we extend a special recognition to members Nick Krebs and Evan Frenz who are members of the Independent World Champions RhythmX.Ken Karlin and the visual staff spent most of Saturday teaching drill. Although weather in Colorado and Texas did not cooperate with some members' travel plans, Madison saw clear skies and temperatures in the 70s. The horn line and color guard learned opening drill in what may be the most comfortable weather they will see this season. The guard had an early treat when they were measured for their costume and saw a sample of the near finished product. “Dance Sophisticates has done an excellent job with this character costume,” said Executive Director Chris Komnick. “Working with JC Caceres on the design, they were able to accurately capture the look he wanted to achieve and integrate some new fabrics to make it possible. Relámpago has entered the building.” With 34 contracted members, the Scouts are still accepting applications for the remaining 2 spots. The next camp for the Madison Scouts is May 8-10 in Madison, Wisconsin. The full corps will be together for the last weekend of rehearsal before spring training. Alumni and fans are welcome to attend our Sunday afternoon rehearsal at Madison Country Day School starting at 11a.The corps is still recruiting for one bass player (bass 5) and 2 guard members.
