Scouts Annual Meeting Recap

The Madison Drum & Bugle Corps Association, Inc. held its annual organizational meeting on Friday, October 29th in Madison, Wisconsin. With its fiscal year ending on October 31st, the results reported are preliminary and subject to change.The financial highlights of the year, as reported by Executive Director Chris Komnick, included:

  • Approximate $60,000 net profit on operations and a total income of approximately $791,000
  • Replicated success in instrument sales by exceeding the planned budget by $21,000
  • Increased gross souvenir & media sales by over 50% from the previous year
  • Operational expenses kept within the target budget
  • Reduced ongoing debt load by an additional 22% in 2010

"I'm pleased with the progress we have made in stabilizing and building on the financial matters of the organization," said Komnick. "We were able to deliver positive results on the field, deliver a great experience to our members, and keep the organization financially viable.""Clearly the results we achieved on the field are most evident," continued Komnick. "Our primary goal for the season was to recapture the identity of the corps and its connection with the audience. James Mason and his team delivered an incredible season to remember. But now it's time to take our next steps as we head into the 2011 season."In addition to programming and financial reports, Komnick shared his vision for 2011 and beyond by discussing:

  • Building community awareness in the Madison area
  • Extending the educational mission beyond drum corps
  • Using the corps as a means to leverage visibility to the underlying programs
  • Preserving the heritage of the Madison Scouts
  • Building the endowment to assure its financial future

By unanimous decision, the association membership elected the following board members to 3-year terms:

  • Richard Rodes
  • Gary Bakker
  • Jeff Manion

The board then announced that they have extended the contract of Executive Director Chris Komnick an additional two years.
