Scouts Announce 2009 Front Ensemble Staff

After two years on the Scouts’ front ensemble staff, Brad Meyer will assume the role of caption head for the 2009 season. Joining him are four new front ensemble staff members: Colin Brown, Reid Paxton, Matt Nadolny, and Ben Potts.Brad is a doctoral student in percussion performance at the University of Kentucky under James Campbell. He has extensive knowledge of world music which is highly applicable in his role with the Scouts. "Brad has been instrumental to the growth of the front ensemble since 07, there is no one better to lead us forward in 2009," said Corps Director Dann Petersen. “This year will see the advent of electronics and each corps will be finding their own interpretation," continued Petersen. "Brad fully understands how this change can strengthen the Scouts’ paradigm."Colin Brown is a graduate of the University of South Carolina with a degree in music education. He marched four years with the Cadets and has taught several indoor drum lines and marching bands. Reid Paxton is finishing his degree in percussion performance at the University of South Carolina. He was a member of the Carolina Crown front ensemble from 2003-05, and Phantom Regiment from 2007-08. Reid currently works with White Knoll High School marching band and indoor drum line. Matthew Nadolny is finishing his degree in music composition at the University of South Carolina. Currently, he is the co-director and arranger for the Fort Mill District Percussion Ensemble from Fort Mill, SC.To help manage the new opportunities and challenges of electronics, the Scouts have announced Ben Potts as the sound engineer. Ben has worked with Carolina Crown, the Blue Stars, the Glassmen, and the Madison Scouts and is finishing his music business degree at Full Sail University. Potts is fluent in digital audio workstations (DAW) and computer based recording systems, where he composes, arranges, samples and mixes all genres of music, dialogue and sound for virtually any setting.
