In this past month, performers around the world participated in the DCI Performers Showcase presented by System Blue. This opportunity provides students with a stage to showcase their individual and ensemble skills in solo or group settings. While the event is typically held live as a part of the DCI World Championships dating back to 1974, the competition was held virtually to accommodate COVID-19 restrictions.
The Madison Scouts have had a long history of involvement and success in Performers Showcase; previously known as "Individual and Ensemble" or just "I&E". This summer, eight Scouts and MadU soloists and one trombone quintet participated. Of those entries, three champions were crowned:
Marco Iannelli - 93.0 Piano Champion
“A Short Suite for Piano Involving a Missing Chair” by Marco Iannelli
“Writing and performing this piece was an incredible experience, and one that will be very influential for my future endeavors as a performer and composer.”
Daniel Modl - 93.0 Saxophone Champion
"Improvisations No. 2" by Ryo Noda
"The Performers Showcase was something I have never done before in my time in DCI. I was very happy with the performance I gave for the showcase and was elated when I was told I would be featured on the DCI Telethon. The feed back I received was exceptional and was very informative to my performance as a musician. I can’t wait to do it again next year!"
Kassidy Smith - 96.5 Flute Champion
“Fish Are Jumping” by Robert Dick
“It took a lot of consistent practice to get the piece exactly where I wanted it to be able to share it with everyone! Getting to perform this summer was an amazing opportunity and it gave me purpose in the middle of all this quarantining to push myself to be better than I was before.”

The Madison Scouts congratulate these and all participants on their 2020 Performers Showcase performances.
