Pushing through push-ups

May 21st- Rocky:Unfortunately my body’s starting to realize what I’m doing and retaliate. Apparently marching a 45 pound bass drum around a field for 12 hours a day isn’t easy. Nevertheless, despite the soreness and calluses, this year is going a lot easier than last summer. I feel like I prepared a lot more for this summer by jogging and working out than I did last year and it is definitely paying off. My mind also knows what to expect and is much more focused than last year when I was a rookie. But that doesn’t mean that PT was any easier today. James (percussion caption head and PT master) took us on a 2 mile jog around the camp after we did the normal ab and leg workouts in place. We stopped every 2 minutes of the jog for ten pushups or sit-ups. When we finally got back everyone just collapsed. It was exhausting, but through this activity I have learned to embrace that. I have learned that pushing ourselves now is what’s going to prepare us for the summer and give us endurance in the long run.The bass subs spot was also pristine this morning. We found a deck overlooking the lake with enough room to set up and play. Nothing beats working on some 16th note timing with a great view. Another plus, we had a turtle that sang to us every time we stopped playing! We wanted to catch him and take him on tour with us, but then realized that that probably wouldn’t turn out well for him in the end.I also became the co-founder and “Pres” (president) of “ShupCity” today. Devin the center snare is the “ident”. We started doing anywhere from 50-100 pushups of varying difficulty and isolations every night after basics block. We are trying to get more people involved in the future, that way we can all get more fit for those short sleeved uniforms!
