This past weekend, the Madison Scouts proudly sponsored Camp Tampico, a two-day marching arts training clinic designed to support and grow the rapidly expanding marching arts community in Mexico.
The clinic brought together eager student performers and world-class educators for intensive instruction across multiple disciplines. Madison Scouts instructors Oscar Ortiz (music and visual), Juana Sandoval (color guard), and John Scharf (percussion) led sessions focused on performance excellence, technique, and ensemble development.

Camp Tampico reflects the Madison Scouts’ broader commitment to education, access, and the global advancement of the marching arts. Mexico has seen significant growth in marching programs in recent years, with increasing student participation and organizational development at the scholastic and independent levels.
“Marching arts knows no borders,” said David Lofy, Programs Director for the Madison Scouts. “Opportunities like Camp Tampico allow us to share our experience while learning from a community that is growing fast and full of energy. When you put passionate students together with high-level instruction, something special happens—and that’s good for the future of the activity worldwide.”
By sponsoring Camp Tampico, the Madison Scouts continue to extend their educational mission beyond the United States, strengthening international relationships and investing in the next generation of performers, educators, and leaders in the marching arts.
