Madison, WI – March 28, 2007 … March Madness did not just apply to basketball this past weekend. The Madison Scouts held their 2007 March camp and for the 60 plus spectators in attendance Sunday afternoon, the MADISON SOUND is here to stay!Weather was not an issue this camp as the members, staff and volunteers arrived at Madison Country Day School and prepared for a weekend of rehearsal and bonding. After check-in and a full Corps meeting, Friday evening was spent working on music in sectionals and ensemble practice. Saturday morning started with a breakfast of french toast in addition to cereal, fresh fruit, and the ever present peanut butter and jelly. Following a one hour stretch/fitness coordination session with the Corps’ fitness trainer, the morning was focused on warm-ups and marching basics. The afternoon segment was spent in sectionals working with the instructional staff and show designers on field show music, parade arrangements and concert tunes.Saturday evening saw the Corps take a field trip to Madison’s Capital Golf Dome, an indoor facility in which the Corps learned and coordinated drill. With anticipation and enthusiasm, the guys learned an integral segment of the summer field show. Following a snack of root beer floats, provided by Deb Krebs (head cook) and her wonderful staff of volunteers, the Corps warmed-up and coordinated the new drill they had just learned. After a transition back to the school, The Scouts’ long day came to a close. Even after a very long intense day on Saturday, the guys pushed through and hyped the special segment and late practice in the golf dome.Sunday started with sectionals in order to warm-up and review the large amount of performance progress made on the musical book. Alumni, board members, parents and fans began to show up early for final ensemble rehearsal Sunday afternoon. Two hours later, after the last note of “Never Walk” was played, it was obvious to everyone attending that the weekend had been a success.Throughout the weekend, our dedicated volunteer staff provided many hours of their time to pick up arriving and departing members, cook and prepare the Corps’ meals, measure members for uniforms, and photograph members and staff for the organization’s database and the MAD-Drive project. After such success in March, anticipation is high for the April camp (4/27 – 4/29). Not only will the color guard be rejoining the Corps for rehearsal, the Corps will also be performing with the Capital Sound during a Sunday open house performance at Waunakee HS at 1:00 pm. In addition to a full weekend of rehearsal, members of the Corps will be performing at the Rockin’ for a Cure ALS benefit Saturday evening, the 28th of April, at 7:00 pm.
