Corey Smith Named 2007 Tour Director

Madison, WI – April 5, 2007 - Corey Smith has been named Tour Director for the Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps. As Tour Director, Smith is ultimately responsible for the day-to-day operations for the corps on tour and the safety and well-being of the members, staff and volunteers associated with the Madison Scouts.“We’re very pleased to have Corey on the Madison Scouts team,” said Executive Director Jeff Spanos. “Corey is a Scouts alumnus (1987-88) and has deep experience in other drum corps and brass ensembles as a performer and instructor that make him enormously qualified for this essential role.” Prior to accepting this position, Corey acquired significant management experience working as a casino manager for a national gaming corporation. “Corey’s experience in people management and his attention to detail will be a key ingredient for providing our members, staff and volunteers with a positive and memorable experience with the Madison Scouts this year,” stated Spanos. Smith played lead baritone with the Memphis Blues Brass Band Drum & Bugle Corps from 1982-1983, was lead baritone for the 27th Lancers Drum & Bugle Corps from 1984-1986, and later played in the University of Memphis bands. Utilizing his strengths in marching and visual, Corey has written and taught both drill and guard work for colleges and high schools across the country. In addition, he has been a contest adjudicator for more than 15 years.As Tour Director for the Madison Scouts, Smith will supervise all members, staff, equipment, transportation, souvenir, volunteers and other critical day-to-day and long-term functions of the corps during all organizational events, camps and the Drum Corps International (DCI) summer tour.
