This past weekend, young men from all around the world began the audition process to earn the privilege of being a part of the 2010 Madison Scouts. Since wrapping up our 2009 fiscal year on October 31st, it’s time to recognize several key organizational accomplishments, including:- Finished with a positive net operating income & cash flow for 2009- Created a significant new revenue stream through the development of our instrument merchandising business- Increased Madison Corps patron donations by over 10% and exceeded our target goal for 2009, especially amongst alumni!- Decreased our debt load by over $150K- Taught over 150 young adults through the 2009 instructional programWhile we did not meet our competitive objectives, we have laid the groundwork for some significant programming changes through the addition of Jim Mason and the incredibly talented staff that he has assembled. We have dedicated ourselves to rebuilding our program in a way that will be both respectful to our history and exciting to our fans. The announcement of our repertoire of Rhapsody in Blue and Slaughter on Tenth Avenue has already created a great deal of excitement amongst Scouts fans old and new.But now I am asking you to make a financial commitment to this organization by participating in our Madison Corps patron program for 2010. The giving meter has been reset to zero and it’s time to take advantage of our current momentum. I want to continue building the financial foundation of this organization so we can fulfill and expand our mission of musical education and personal development through performance.Jim Mason has talked about rebuilding the Madison “Wall of Sound” and no perfect way to launch our annual fund raising campaign then by using that mantra. I am personally starting the “Wall of Sound” campaign by donating $1000 at the Brotherhood level and having my company match that. I ask that you join at a giving level most suitable for you. And remember, if you donate before December 31, 2009 you can utilize the full amount of your donation on your 2009 tax return.Thank you for your support!Chris KomnickExecutive DirectorYou can donate online by going to:Madison Gear (pick up some Scouts Christmas gifts as well)Or by sending a check to:Madison Scouts2935 S Fish Hatchery Road #401Madison, WI 53711The Madison Drum & Bugle Corps Association, Inc. is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization and donations to the organization are qualified as deductions for taxes purposes.
