High Brass Instructor

Gareth Ramsey (he/they) is a musician who finds himself most at home at the intersection of
acoustic and electronic music. Now a trumpeter, producer, and audio engineer, Gareth grew up
performing on trumpet and mellophone with the Bluecoats, Blue Knights, Cadets2, and 2022
Bluecoats Alumni Corps. Gareth’s musical interests are as wide and varied as the places he grew
up: having been born in Hong Kong and growing up in Malaysia, Hungary, China, and the
United States. Gareth is always looking for new musical inspiration but has lately been drawn
towards lofi, house, jazz, pop, and contemporary classical influences in his work. Currently, he
freelances as an audio engineer and performs with Longy’s Ensemble Uncaged, Orchestra IS,
and The Boston Modern Big Band, and he frequently subs for Met Winds, Mercury Orchestra,
and the Brookline Symphony Orchestra.

In addition to their work performing, Gareth is also deeply involved in music education. A
former high school physics teacher, Gareth has taught high school marching bands, Music City
Drum Corps, and is involved in jazz education as a sound engineer for high school jazz festivals.
In their free time Gareth enjoys rock climbing, cooking, and playing video games.
