Andrew Fresquez is an educator, clinician, and adjudicator based out of Southern California. He is currently a graduate student at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), pursuing a Master’s of Music in Wind Band Conducting, studying under Travis J. Cross. At UCLA, Fresquez collaborates with and serves as teaching assistant for the Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, and the “Solid Gold Sound” Bruin Marching Band. In addition, he also guest conducts the Brass Ensemble and uclaFLUX contemporary music ensemble. He received his Bachelor’s of Music in Instrumental Performance on Bass Trombone at California State University, Fullerton, with an emphasis in Music Education. Previous conducting instructors include Dustin Barr, Gregory Whitmore, and Jeff Malecki.
Before continuing his education, Fresquez was the Associate Band Director at Westview High School in San Diego, CA. Under his direction, Westview received numerous accolades including a program first High Music Award in the Southern California School Band and Orchestra (SCSBOA) 5A Championships, as well as an invitation to perform at the prestigious Carnegie Hall.
During his time in San Diego, he actively performed as principal trombone with the Finest City Wind Orchestra (FCWO) and as a percussionist with the La Jolla Symphony. While with the FCWO, Fresquez was also a recipient of the Emerging Conductors Fellowship.
Fresquez passionately remains an active educator. He teaches locally as the Program Coordinator and Visual Caption Manager for Santa Monica High School. He additionally works with POW Percussion as part of the visual team. He also teaches on the brass staff with the Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps. He has previously served on the visual team for the Troopers Drum and Bugle Corps (2020) and as an Assistant Visual Caption Manager for Pacific Crest Drum and Bugle Corps (2022-2025). Throughout his years, he has given numerous masterclasses on trombone, conducting, visual and marching, and also ran several student leadership seminars throughout Southern California, including summer workshops with Pacific Crest and the San Diego Summer Music Institute (SDSMI).
His professional affiliations include California Music Educators Association (CMEA), National Association for Music Education (NAfME) and the Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association (SCSBOA).
